"LUCY" :

In the year 1974 there was an international sensation. Dr. Donald Johanson and his paleoanthropology team from the Cleveland University, dug out in the Danakil Depression, in a dry river valley near Hadar, the oldest hominid species bones in the world. The fossilized remains of a very remote human ancestor were found. They named the 3,5 million year old female skeleton "Lucy". With the "Australopithecus afarensis", the missing link between ape and human-kind was found. And so, Ethiopia gets the prestigious title of the "Cradle of Humanity" !

Please notice: Recent discoveries inform us that "ardipithecus ramidus kadabba" is found to be the oldest human remain ever found in the earth, i.e. 5,5 millions of years ago !
It is expected to find fragments of the prehistoric man within the next couple of years.

Sie gaben dem 3,5 Millionen Jahre alten weiblichen Skelett den Namen "Lucy" . Mit dem "Australopithecus afarensis" war nun das fehlende Bindeglied zwischen Primaten und Menschen gefunden. Dieser aufsehenerregende Fund sicherte u.a. Äthiopien den begehrten Titel "Wiege der Menschheit" zu sein.
